Co-Founder
Monika Thapa Magar is a shining example of youthful passion and dedication to Nepal’s hospitality industry. At just 24, with a degree in hotel management from NATHM, she co-founded Hotel Sohum alongside her father, Tilak Thapa Magar. Rather than following the path that many young Nepalese take—seeking opportunities abroad—Monika chose to invest her talents in her motherland, aiming to make a meaningful impact. Every day, more than 1,600 young people leave Nepal in search of jobs, but Monika believes that there are ample opportunities right here. Her love for hospitality drives her, and her determination to create something lasting in Nepal is truly inspiring.
In addition to her passion for hospitality, Monika has a deep love for yoga and meditation, which she views as an art of living. Both Monika and her father, Tilak, share this interest and are planning to offer free yoga sessions on the rooftop of Hotel Sohum in the near future. This initiative will provide guests with the opportunity to experience a peaceful and rejuvenating practice during their stay, making the hotel a unique destination for travelers who are also interested in wellness and mindfulness.
By choosing to stay at Hotel Sohum, you’re not only supporting a new and vibrant business but also encouraging a young Nepali woman to realize her dreams without having to look abroad. Let’s show Monika and others like her that there are plenty of opportunities in Nepal, and that her vision for a thriving hospitality business can succeed right here at home.
